A brief taste of real winter

Palm Springs is about 2 hours from Oceanside. We decided to drive over this week when the weather cooled down on the beach to the 50's. Palm Springs is inland in the desert, so we took off anticipating some warm weather. We decided to take the cable cars to the top of the mountain that overlooks Palm Springs. In approximately 10 minutes, the car transports you from 1000 ft to over 8000 ft. Due to the recent cold front and rain that moved through, the snowline was at 4000 feet and at the top there was plenty of snow and cold air. There are miles of trails at the top, but the high winds and cold temperatures convinced us that enjoying a nice lunch and panoramic view from the restaurant was right up our alley. The view was spectacular. The cable car travels up (and down) the highest sheer cliff in the US. It was an amazing ride with an amazing view. Enough winter for me. The beach is beckoning!
